Breckenridge Restaurants open during ‘Mud Season’

By Ethan Hedman

Even during “Mud Season” in Breckenridge, there are still restaurants open! In Breckenridge and other ski towns in the western slope, the ski season unfortunately has to come to an end. When the ski slopes are empty, and the trails are still too wet, the ‘Mud Season’ begins here in Breck. Although people are not able to hit the slopes, this time of year is beloved among many who frequent Breckenridge. As some of the outdoor opportunities are closed, new moments arise here in town. Next, with community events and our year-round restaurants, this is what keeps locals and visitors coming back year after year! However, restaurants tend to be more open during the Mud Season, you may not even need a reservation. Subsequently, here are some of our favorites that are open all year long!

Serving at a winery

Whiskey Star

First, whether you are coming from out of town or have lived here for decades, some of the best BBQ in Summit County can be found at Whiskey Star in Breckenridge. Located on main street, this local establishment is open during mud season and was recently renovated to include outdoor patios. It includes a full-service bar with over 160 different whiskeys while you take in the mountains or watch the game. Here, you can get true Texas Style BBQ that is always served fresh for you and your friends and family. Moreover, it is one of the best Breckenridge restaurants, so be sure to stop by for your Texas BBQ cravings.

Carboy Winery

In addition to skiing and hiking, Breckenridge is known for its outstanding wine options. If you’re just coming into town and are ready for a quiet evening filled with great spirits, look no further than Carboy Winery Breckenridge. This local spot has dozens of choices, with options for flights of wine if more than one catches your eye. Furthermore, they have a great selection of snacks. Charcuterie boards, and bruschetta can all be paired with your drink of choice. Lastly, finish your meal off with one of the scrumptious dessert options, and feel free to bring the kids along, on your next mud season in Breck.

Indoor dining at a restaurant

New Opening during “Mud Season”: Mount Golian Grill

Finally, there is Mount Golian Grill. This is a new establishment in the heart of downtown Breck and is serving delicious Mongolian food all year round – including mud season! Mount Golian serves custom bowl creations where you decide which protein, starch, and fresh veggies you want, all to be topped off with their delicious Asian-style sauces. This spot brings Breckenridge traditional Mongolian food with the convenience of locally-sourced ingredients – many are sourced here in Colorado! Since, these bowls are crafted with care, they ensure the taste and energy you will need for your next adventure. While many folks choose to dine in, they are also set up for to-go orders. Therefore, you can take your Mongolian bowl creation on the road, trail, or slope. To top it all off, they have a great happy hour daily from 3pm until 6pm.

Breckenridge in the "Mud Season"

Lastly, many folks think that mud season turns ski towns into ghost towns, but that simply isn’t true! Mud season is one of the best times to visit cities and towns in the western slope. Restaurants and local events become more accessible and less crowded than at any other point throughout the year. To the dedicated restaurants that continue to stay open year-round and serve Breck, locals and visitors alike say thank you! So, this upcoming mud season, be sure to take a look at all of these spots and more to take in the beauty and tranquility of Breckenridge like you’ve never experienced it before!
