By Ethan Hedman
Here in the snow-capped mountains of Colorado, we are fortunate to be surrounded with an abundance of outdoor opportunities such as many hikes near Breckenridge. From skiing to fishing, Breck has it all; but the most common summer activity up here is hiking. With dozens of hikes near Breckenridge, Mount Golian Grill brings you the best hiking companion possible – a hearty and robust meal. Whether you are a local, or traveling across the planet to be here, here are some great hiking and bowl combinations for your journey!
McCullough Gulch Trail
Perhaps the pinnacle of hiking in and around Breckenridge is the McCullough Gulch Trail. Located just south of Breckenridge, this trail features everything from waterfalls to reservoirs as you travel along the north side of Quandary Peak. This is a challenging and bold hike, one that requires a person eating a hearty and constructive meal before or during the hike. Additionally, we would love to send you on your way to this scenic hike with a nutritious bowl. Try it filled with steak paired with our gluten-free rice, with broccoli, and our Mongolian BBQ sauce to top it off. This will give you the energy you need to power through this hike to the end, in an invigorating and delicious way!
Mayflower and Mohawk Lakes
Another hike would be the Mayflower and Mohawk lakes, which are located to the southwest of Breckenridge. They offer some of the best views around. People head this way for fishing and camping in the summer, and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. Also, this hike is a moderate hike, accessible for folk of nearly every skill level. This hike would pair well with a bowl sure to give you the energy boost you need for the return trip back to town. We would recommend a bowl with Chicken, Pad Thai Noodles, and Egg. Top this all off with our Keshig sauce, which will bring both ginger and lemon flavors to your bowl creation and enjoy as you sit lakeside in beautiful Summit County.
Next, if you are looking for something that the whole family can enjoy, look no further than pairing one of the bowls at Mount Golian Grill with a trip to Sawmill Reservoir. Situated just west of downtown Breckenridge, this is the best hike for folks of all ages as it is only a matter of minutes to make it up to the lake – don’t forget you fishing pole! We would recommend bowls that are enjoyable, as this spot is primarily for leisure and relaxation. Try bringing up shrimp or tofu bowls with Chinese noodles mixed in alongside spinach, carrots, and cabbage. Top this all off with lime wedges and our Ghengis Khan sauce to take the natural flavors of your protein and veggies to a new level. Enjoy the day knowing you have put food that will give you the energy you need for a day full of outdoor activities!
Boreas Pass Loop Trail
Finally, if you are looking for something different, head to the southeast towards Boreas Pass Loop Trailhead. This is a more recreational area and a moderate hike – many folks use this loop for horseback riding and mountain biking! This offers views not available at the peaks to the west and south of Breckenridge, with a full view of the ski runs on the mountain and Goose Pasture Tarn. Lastly, we recommend a to-go lunch that surprises you and nourishes you all the same. Try our pork and zucchini noodles, mixed with onion, cabbage, and mixed peppers. Throw in our Bökh sweet and sour sauce to pack a punch. If you’re looking for a mid-hike snack, try our Asian chips served with spicy aioli.
At Mount Golian Grill, our goal is to bring a taste of Mongolia to your outdoor excursion here in Breckenridge. We want to give you healthy and delicious options as you decide where to take your to-go lunch order. Stop by soon, and happy trails!
